SORCHA E.

Teacher on Wheels

I graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree in 2016 from the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, Maynooth University in Ireland. Since then I have taught both grades 1 and 3 and have worked as a learning support / resource teacher. I currently teach Grade 3 in a lovely school in Vancouver. I enjoy teaching and love to see children enjoying the subject that they are studying. I prefer to teach using hands-on activities so that the child is active and engaged in their learning. Every child should feel successful and so I believe that it is important to begin at each child’s individual level and work with them in order for them to achieve their full potential.

REBECCA C.

Teacher on Wheels

Hi my name is Rebecca and I am from Ireland. I moved to Vancouver to teach and explore the beautiful scenery. I graduated from Sligo IT with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. I then went on to do my PGCE in Education at Sunderland University. I have worked in many different countries to gain more experience and explore all the different cultures. I enjoy teaching and enjoy watching children grow and develop in many different ways. I have been a teacher for many years now and I am currently working as a grade 5 teacher in Vancouver. My students have previously told me I am an ‘enthusiastic teacher’. I like to make my lessons enjoyable and interesting for all, using different activities. I tailor all lessons to each student's needs. I like to get to know all my students individually. During each lesson we would work on the students progress using prior knowledge and activities. I love to meet new students and learn what works best for them. I am excited to share my teaching methods with you all.

When I first settled in Vancouver in 2022, I spent a year working as an Education Assistant, gaining invaluable experience in supporting students with diverse needs. My teaching approach is all about creating a lively and engaging classroom environment. I firmly believe that learning should be fun and hands-on, tailored to each student's interests. With two years of tutoring experience under my belt before my move, I've honed my skills in individualized instruction. My goal is to meet every child at their academic level, ensuring they all feel successful and empowered in their learning journey. My passion for education has taken me from Ireland to Vancouver, and I'm dedicated to making a positive impact on my students' lives through inclusive and dynamic teaching methods.

JOHN M.

Teacher on Wheels

I'm John McGarvey, a seasoned educator with a rich history of classroom leadership. For a significant portion of my career, I had the privilege of being the Head Teacher for Grade 5 at Al Najah Private School in Abu Dhabi. In this capacity, I not only managed seven classrooms but also took charge of teaching my own class. This pivotal role allowed me to gain invaluable insights into curriculum implementation and educational leadership. Over the years, I've honed my skills in teaching Math, Science, and Moral Education, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for my students. My responsibilities extended beyond the classroom, as I mentored new class teachers in crafting effective IEPs and assessments aligned with the British Curriculum. This experience not only deepened my understanding of curriculum development but also reinforced my commitment to providing a supportive and enriching educational environment. Beyond my role in Abu Dhabi, I've had the privilege of teaching in a range of educational settings. From St. Finian’s National School in Dublin, Ireland, where I taught a variety of subjects to Grades 3 and 4, to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Vancouver, Canada, where I led the Math curriculum for Grade 5 students, my diverse experiences have equipped me with a unique perspective on education. These experiences, coupled with my new role as Head of Physical and Health Education at Saint Patrick Elementary School, have provided me with a holistic understanding of educational practices. I'm enthusiastic about leveraging this wealth of experience to shape meaningful learning experiences for students, fostering a lifelong love for education.

Ultimately, I want to empower my students and install confidence in them so that they can excel in their academic journey!

TONYA M.

Online Tutor

I am in my last year studying at UBC majoring in Psychology and minor in Biology. I have worked with a wide range of age group students, from young children (5-7), high school teenagers, to university students in topics such as Math, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, English, and Mandarin. My teaching philosophy is to teach students in fun and engaging way to get their interest into the subject as well as building their confidence that they can do well. I really enjoy tutoring and teaching children/youth on the subject I am passionate and proficient at because I really enjoy the feeling of slowly guiding them to the right answer one step at a time and seeing the process of them understanding the content. It is a great accomplishment to see struggling students "click" after I explain a question or concept to them, and I hope I can help students succeed in their academic endeavors.
